Google, Airbnb, and Amazon all have one thing in common: an incredible user experience (also known as UX). Their principle websites are straightforward and easy to use, and many (including Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia) attribute the success of these “startup unicorns” to strong UX design.

CNNMoney’s 100 Best Jobs in America list for 2017 includes both UX designers and UX researchers. The ranking was based on growth rate, salary, and job satisfaction. User experience researchers came in at No. 39, with a median annual salary of $106,000 and an estimated 10-year job growth of 19 percent. According to the best user experience research company, user experience designers were No. 99, with a median annual salary of $85,900 and an estimated 10-year job growth of 13 percent.

So, what’s the difference between a UX researcher vs. a UX designer?

First, a step back. UX can be defined as “the experience a user has while interacting with a product” and UX design as “the process by which a designer trie[s] to determine what that experience will be.”

One of a UX designer’s mains responsibilities is to make websites, apps, and other pieces of technology as easy to use as possible. In order to do that, they must understand their target market: what the consumer wants, what motivates them, and what turns them off. This is where a UX researcher comes in.

What Is a UX Researcher?

UX researchers are akin to data scientists: rather than hypothesizing about what a consumer may like, they analyze actual consumer behavior and form data-driven insights to address the needs of these consumers. UX researchers replace guesswork with informed insights and then work with UX designers, engineers, and product managers to turn these insights into actionable, consumer-centric results that resonate with the audience.

When asked about the difference between a UX researcher and a UX designer, researcher George Kalyvas said people in his role “should be able to conduct in-depth and advanced research both in qualitative and quantitative methods. It is important to be able to understand the research objective and what type of research or combination of research approaches you will use.”

He lists his primary responsibilities as “designing, conducting, analyzing, and reporting on user-centered design research and usability testing. My main responsibilities include identification of user needs and goals, task and workflow modeling as well as unmoderated usability testing, and more formal, in-depth testing. I also conduct usability research both online and in the field and provide recommendations for improvement.”

The key difference between a UX researcher and UX designer, Kalyvas said, is that the purpose of the UX researcher is “to conduct research and set up the scope of the study according to the research objectives. The outcome of the research is the application of design… [T]he UX designer is expected to design according to principles… while keeping in mind the mental models of the end-user.”

TalentLyft, a recruiting software that provides job description templates, lists the primary responsibilities of an entry-level UX researcher as follows:

  • Manage and conduct user research and concept development
  • Research buyer personas and investigate buyer behavior
  • Lead users throughout the process of proposing, wireframing, and implementing UX improvements
  • Work closely with marketing and product management teams to identify research topics
  • Work broadly with design, product management, content strategy, engineering, and marketing
  • Participate in recruitment activities for user research
  • Plan and implement the overall user research strategy and methods

Bee venom is believed to have efficacy in medicine and beauty. Some are using bee venom as an alternative medicine to cure cancer or use it as cosmetic ingredients. The conventional harvesting of bee venom by killing the bee itself is not very effective.

Taking that into account, Ariq Kusuma Wardana (Electrical Engineering FT) with his three friends; Muhaammad Khuzain (Electrical Engineering FT), Mohammad Euro Anwarudin (FAPET), and Guruh Prasetyo (FAPET) created B-VETRACE (Bee Venom Harvester Device), an Innovative Bee Venom Removal Tool with Wave Electrical Method Integrated with Solar Cell.

Guided by Eka Maulana, ST., MT., M.Eng., the team made this tool to be self-generating energy, that is by utilizing solar cell. “We use the solar cell to run the B-VETRACE system, Basically the tool will emit a certain sound so that the bee thinks of it as a predator so that the bees will release venoms that will be accommodated on the collector in the tool,” said Team Leader Ariq. No matter how talented you are behind the wheel of your vehicle, you can’t control what happens around you. Aggressive drivers. Extreme weather. Roadway obstacles. Mechanical malfunctions. Each of these hazards can jeopardize the safety of you and your passengers if you’re not prepared to respond to them or know how to avoid them altogether.

Taking a defensive driving course teaches you safe driving techniques for controlling your vehicle in emergency situations, as well as procedures for handling fatigue, emotional stress, and road rage.

Of course, there are many more reasons for learning safe driving habits. Here are the top 5 benefits for taking a defensive driving course:

SAVE MONEY
Save Money on your car insurance by taking an online defensive driving course
Many states support safe driver incentives that could reduce your insurance premium by as much as 10% for completing a defensive driving course.

Many states support safe driver incentives that could reduce your insurance premium by as much as 10% for completing a defensive driving course. In some states, including North Dakota and Pennsylvania, state authorities require insurance companies to provide discounts to drivers who successfully complete a defensive driving course. This can be a considerable savings for many drivers, especially parents with teen drivers included on their insurance policy. Be sure to check with your insurance agent about regulations in your area. Some states allow 1-hour courses, while others require drivers to complete longer courses to qualify for savings. DriveSafe Online® offers multiple courses to meet your various needs. No matter the duration, completing a defensive driving course is well worth your time and effort because you could save hundreds of dollars on insurance.

REDUCE POINTS/FINES
If you have driving violations, completing a defensive driving course could remove points or dismiss a ticket from your driving record. Too many points or tickets on your record could cost you money in fines, as well as potential lost wages if your license is suspended. And if you are unable to drive, you’ll need to allocate money for cabs, buses, and any other transportation needs. Completing a defensive driving course is a fast and effective way to keep your driving record clean. Check with your insurance agent, state DMV, or court clerk where you received the ticket to learn if DriveSafe Online® course satisfies your court requirements.

LEARN CRITICAL ACCIDENT-FREE TECHNIQUES
Whether you drive a few blocks to the grocery store or hundreds of miles for a vacation get-away, road hazards are always present. The best way to stay safe is to put yourself in position to avoid potential threats. Defensive driving courses teach drivers safe techniques to proactively anticipate and effectively react to a variety of hazards including careless actions by other drivers, poor visibility and road conditions due to dangerous weather conditions, and dangers triggered by various physical and emotional states.

REFRESH DRIVING LAW KNOWLEDGE
Did you know that more than 40% of crashes occur at intersections? Or that passing another vehicle within 100 feet of a bridge, railroad crossing, or tunnel dramatically increases your chances of being involved in an accident? Unless you are a new driver, it’s probably been years since you reviewed driving laws and regulations. DriveSafe Online® provides a great opportunity for you to refresh and enhance your driving I.Q. and renew your road safety confidence.

BECOME A BETTER DRIVER
It doesn’t matter what type of driver you are, experienced or beginner, there’s always room for improvement when it comes to driving knowledge and techniques. Think how safe the roads would be if every driver completed DriveSafe Online® and followed the safety techniques they learned. Remember, you can’t control what happens around you, but you can prepare yourself to safely overcome hazardous situations you encounter while driving.
