IEEE Colloquium Supports Energy Security

Energy is the world crucial issue. The increased of energy demand caused by population growth and depletion of the world’s oil reserves and fossil fuel emissions issues demand that humans should immediately produce and use renewable energy. Answering this challenge, Department of Electrical Engineering (TE), Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (FT-UB) held a Colloquium on Saturday (26/Aug/2017).

This Colloquium’s presented by Powers Systems Engineering and the Energy Management Research Group in cooperation with the UB Student Branch Institute of Electrical and Electric Engineers (IEEE). Held in the TE 1.6 Classroom, this annual seminar features three speakers; Prof Arif Nur Afandi ST MT MIAEng MIEEE PhD, Ir Hadi Suyono ST MT PhD IPM, and Eka Maulana ST MT MEng.

colloquium2Also attending the morning activity was the whole range of Powers Systems Engineering and Energy Management Research Group; DrEng Panca Mudjirahardjo ST MT, Raden Arief Setiawan ST MT, Dr. Rini Nur Hasanah ST MSc and colloquium participants that consist of undergraduate and post graduate students.

Colloquium was opened by the Head of Department of TE FT-UB, Aziz Muslim ST MT PhD. He gave a positive response to this activity. “Involving students at this activity is expected to provide insight into the renewable energy and hopefully they can contribute to energy security for Indonesia,” he said.

colloquium1Moderated by Panca Mudjirahardjo, the most awaited subject was delivered at the beginning of the event by Prof Afandi. This FT-UB alumni delivered a presentation entitled An Opportunity Implementation of Thunderstorm Algorithm in Electrical Engineering. Followed by exposure from Ir Hadi Suyono with the title of Renewable Energy – Problem and Challenge. The last one is material on Smart Grid Technology and UB’s empowerment for Sustainable Energy by Eka Maulana. (mic)
